about.
Juanita Zaldua has recently graduated from Edinburgh College of Art, The University of Edinburgh with a BA in Painting. As an artist Juanita has always been interested in taking something ordinary and making it extraordinary through the technical process creating an unusual perspective of banal urban landscapes. Her work focuses on Edinburgh from her own view point as she feels it is important to make work that is honest and familiar and relates to her personally. She explores areas in Edinburgh up close, drawing attention to different aspects of the city that often go overlooked and unnoticed in day to day life. Her recent focus this year has been on the texture and details in building walls, doors, pipes and window frames and specifically the detail in the painted surface - capturing the way the paint is layered up and peeled off or cracked on these surfaces. The drawings and paintings she produces are small scale which accentuates the detail and draws the viewer into looking closely at the compositions.

'Among the most notable painters, Juanita Zaldua paints small pictures which record in exquisite close-up small areas of flaking plaster, peeling paint or other evidence of wear and tear in buildings, finding richness of texture and colour in unremarkable fragments of the environment.'
